The stereo speaker system Proxima2 is the successor of Proxima awarded by the highfidelity.pl online magazine with the title "best product 2008" . While designing the new version all the suggestions from the audience and all flaws indicated in the test have been taken into account. The introduced changes resulted in considerable improvement of low frequency response, reproduced space and general sound presentation are concerned. The speakers became more friendly for the amplifiers and more natural in listening.
Undoubtedly the advantage of Proxima2 will be ability to listening to music with very low volume levels and also easiness of drive by low power amplifiers.
And what has changed?
Proxima2 received totally new 2nd order crossover with phase and impedance correction circuits. The excellent Jantzen Audio Z-Superior, Z-Standard and Cross-Cap capacitors were used to build these crossover. Combination of capacitors were selected during listening sessions. The specially designed crossover filters allowed to eliminate all the resistors combined in series or in parallel with the tweeter. Thanks to this, very clear, detailed and open sound has been achieved. At the same time the tone balance between all the sound frequencies has been sustained. New crossover also improved the dynamics and sound power. The emphasis has been put on precise rhythm and recordings atmosphere.
All the crossover elements are paired with the 1% accuracy. Coils, made of Oxygen Free Copper, are prepared with the greatest care of repeatability. Elements are mounted on a plate and connected directly with each other taking into account the shortest signal flow. Geometrical planning of the elements on the plate made it possible to create one ground point for entire crossover.
Proxima2 has changed also visually. The speaker is 1cm narrower and 3cm higher than the previous version. It is also more lissome and elegant. The upper and side walls covered with the leather have delicate arch shape. They are multilayer which reduces vibration. The bottom wall is covered with the cork and all speaker is mounted on the elliptical base. At the woofer level the cabinet is strengthened with the metal enhancement. At the back wall, there are visible elements connecting front and back wall of the cabinet.
The Proxima2 speakers will sound best in the rooms of 9 to 16 square meters. With the well combined amplifier and player will produce very precise and pleasant sound. Warm semiconductor amplifier or good tube amplifier will suit to the Proxima2 best. Listening to music for hours on that system will be a pure pleasure. Design: Proxima2 is a closed-box, two way, two transducers speaker system. Over 1m height and 32cm width, it has only 12cm of depth. Slim speaker cabinet gains stability by leather-finished speaker base which is equipped with adjustable spikes. Speaker base is also vibrations absorbing element. It is a multilayer structure - two MDF layers are combined with plastic mass. The cabinet is built of materials with different dumping factors. Sides of the speakers are made of leather-finished MDF, on a top of each speaker the name PROXIMA is imprinted. Front and back of the speaker is made of melaminated wooden board. There are six different exotic wood finishes available. Connections of cabinet parts are made by using additional HDF elements. Transducers & Crossover:
Low frequency, 17 cm (6,5in) speaker has cast alluminium basket and reversed rubber surround enable to reach large cone displacement without risk of damage. It has polypropylene cone and 10cm vented magnet system.
High frequency speaker is a soft 28mm (1,25in) dome with ferrofluid coolant. Half transparent diaphragm is a silk plait covered with lacquer. Front plate of the transducer is covered with absorbing material, ferrite magnet system has 70mm in diameter.
Connections of transducers are made using oxygen free copper wires. Gold platted terminals accept a variety of cable terminations to suit most applications: banana plugs, spades (bare wires up to 4mm2). Favourite configuration:
